Cape Charles Air Force Station was a United States Air Force radar installation located near Cape Charles, Virginia. Active during the Cold War, it served as a key component of the nation's early-warning radar defense network guarding the U.S. East Coast against potential Soviet air threats.

Established in 1950 as part of the permanent Air Defense Command radar network, Cape Charles AFS tracked aircraft movements across the Mid-Atlantic region. It operated long-range search radars such as the AN/FPS-35 and height-finder models, contributing data to the regional Air Defense Command center and the North American Aerospace Defense Command system.

Cape Charles AFS transitioned through multiple radar generations as technology advanced. Initially part of the Ground-Control Intercept system, it later integrated into the Semi-Automatic Ground Environment (SAGE) network in the early 1960s. This upgrade enabled computerized data sharing and improved response times for interceptor aircraft control.

With the decline of manned bomber threats and the shift to satellite and missile defense, Cape Charles AFS was deactivated in 1981. Portions of the site were transferred to local authorities and the Federal Aviation Administration, while remnants of radar towers and support buildings remain as reminders of the Cold War era's air defense infrastructure.
