Two Creeks Air Force Station, Wisconsin

Two Creeks Air Force Station was a Cold War-era United States Air Force radar installation located near Two Creeks, Wisconsin, within Manitowoc County. It served as a part of the nation's early air defense network, designed to detect and track potential aerial threats during the 1950s and 1960s.

Two Creeks AFS was established in 1951 amid growing tensions of the Cold War. It became part of the Air Defense Command's radar network, intended to provide early warning of Soviet bomber incursions over the Great Lakes region. The station's radar coverage supported interceptor aircraft from regional bases by directing them toward unidentified targets.

The installation featured radar towers, operations buildings, barracks, and communications infrastructure. Its principal radar systems evolved over time-from AN/FPS-3 search radars to more advanced height-finder units. Personnel at the site conducted 24-hour surveillance, feeding radar data into the broader continental defense system coordinated by the Semi-Automatic Ground Environment (SAGE) network in later years.

The station was operated by the 700th Aircraft Control and Warning Squadron under Air Defense Command. On 30 November 1957 the manned Air Force Station closed and the squadron was inactivated. The radar equipment remained and the site was converted in 1959 to an unmanned "gap-filler" radar feeding data to Antigo Air Force Station.

By 1969, advances in radar coverage and changing defense priorities led to the station's closure. Following deactivation, the property was transferred out of military use. Today, little remains of the original structures, though the site is recognized among the many decommissioned radar stations that formed the backbone of the U.S. Cold War air defense network.

From 1957 to 1959 the site was also used by the US Army for the Nike Defense Missile System as a radar station, designated Tisch Mills, Wisconsin (CM-01R), for the Chicago-Milwaukee Nike defense network.
